The Valvasor Award for BIO 26| Common Knowledge

The Museum of Architecture and Design receives the highest national award for activities in the field of museology 

The Museum of Architecture and Design became the recipient of the highest national award for activities in the field of museology. The 26th Biennial of Design, BIO 26 | Common Knowledge became the recipient of the Valvasor Award for Outstanding Achievements.  

Conferred annually by the Slovene Museum Society, the Valvasor Award is the highest award for achievements in the field of museology. Justifying this year's award, the jury wrote that with the 26th Biennial of Design and its exhibition narrative, the Museum of Architecture and Design has made a huge conceptual leap in the understanding of modern museums while continuing to be an important promotor and caretaker of Slovenian design heritage.       


The 2020 Valvasor Award for Special Achievements was conferred to the entire group of authors of BIO 26


The members of the Valvasor Award jury: Marjetka Balkovec Debevec, MA, Marjeta Bregar, Goran Milovanović, Miha Mlinar, MA (President), Dr. Karla Oder, Tita Porenta, MA, and Maša Sakara Sučević, PhD, whose award justification reads:

In addition to special one-time achievement awards conferred on the Museum of Architecture and Design, the curatorial team of the Ivana Kobilca exhibition at the National Gallery, and on the National Museum for the Coptic Textiles exhibition project, the jury also presented the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award to Nina Zdravič Polič, Museum Councillor at the Slovene Ethnographic Museum. Five honorary Valvasor Honorary Recognitions were awarded to Irena and Metka Kavčič for donating materials from the estate of Maks Kavčič to the Slovene Theatre Institute, Mateja Logar for donating the estate of Dr. Boris Kuhar to the Slovene Ethnographic Museum, Stanislav Tušek for 30 years of activity in the field of technical heritage, the curatorial team of Stories About People with Wings on Their Feet exhibition, and to Janez Kunaver for his outstanding contribution in the popularization of cultural heritage protection. The Valvasor Carnation, an award recognizing projects focusing on social empathy, was conferred on the Public Institution for Culture, Young Adults and Sports – Litija Municipal Musem for their exhibition project United in Heritage.
