OpenMoji is an open-source project carried out by over fifty students and the two professors Benedikt Gross and Daniel Utz of the Design University in Schwäbisch Gmünd, Germany. So far the team has developed more than three thousand emojis that are freely accessible and follow a single style guide so they can easily be integrated into personal texts. Communication with emojis is ubiquitous in our day and age, and with this project the developers want to break the limits of access, use, and variety of the emoji sets that big tech companies offer, which are often adapted to the morals and ideologies of their respective software platforms.
