Underground Discussion Club is a public platform that encourages discussions on current world events. The architect and visual artist Apolonija Šušteršič invites visitors to enter the club and engage in conversations, share opinions or argue about some of today’s most pressing topics. The club is intended to be an intimate space for conversations and contemplations that holds the potential of provoking ideas and (im)possible solutions. In 2015, the artist staged one of her clubs at the University of Westminster in London, within which she fostered discussions on society’s elitisation and purification through capitalism. With the cities of Westminster and central London as case studies, the club tackled the potentialities and responsibilities of architecture. It not only questioned what kind of impact radical social, economic and political developments in architecture might have on our daily lives and social environment, but also who ultimately profits from gentrification.
